From the iconic Gulbenkian Foundation to contemporary art at Underdogs, explore museums and galleries that showcase the best of Lisbon's creativity. --- #### Gulbenkian Foundation A leading cultural center in Portugal, the Gulbenkian Foundation is a multipurpose complex comprising several museums, art galleries, exhibition halls, and an impressive glass-walled auditorium that hosts Gulbenkian Music's concert and conference program. **CENTRO DE ARTE MODERNA (CAM):** The CAM Modern Art Collection was built over 60 years and currently brings together around 12,000 works by different artists and languages. The new CAM building (2024) was remodeled by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Together with landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic, they created a work of architecture and nature that perfectly integrates. #### MACAM + MNAA **Armando Martins Museum of Contemporary Art** - presents an exceptional collection of Portuguese and international modern art, which collector Armando Martins began in 1974 and continues to develop to this day. The museum is housed in a magnificently renovated 18th-century palace and offers both a permanent exhibition and a private exhibition, under the concept: The House of Private Collections. **National Museum of Ancient Art** - A classical art museum housed in the Red Cross Palace, with a beautiful garden decorated with wisteria and views of the Tagus River. Although medieval sacred art (arte sacra) occupies a prominent place in the collection, there is much more to offer as you stroll through the palace's graceful halls. For coffee and cake afterwards, head to the museum's self-service restaurant or head to the nearby *La Boulangerie* , with its charming outdoor tables overlooking the square. #### MAAT + MUDE **MAAT** - Focus more on the building's architecture than its artistic content. Temporary exhibitions are held in a small space with two galleries. By the river, stop for a coffee in the stunning first-floor café and simply enjoy the view. **MUDE** - The newly renovated Design Museum, in the center of Baixa, offers an overview of 20th-century Portuguese design. Housed in a former bank, it's the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon in central Lisbon. #### Underdogs Much more than an art gallery in Lisbon's newest neighborhood, Marvila. Underdogs is a true cultural platform—a gallery and exhibition space that also produces art publications and commissions artistic projects from an impressive cast of artists from the contemporary art scene.
